This cultivar’s exact history remains elusive. A landrace variety native to the Hawaiian island of Maui and grown in fertile volcanic soil, it was popularized by the Vietnam War vets and hippies in the ‘60s. A mild sativa, it is known to increase energy, relieve stress, and enhance mood. The flavors are described as sweet and tropical. Maui Wowie is a true and notable, legendary variety for patients treating symptoms with cannabis.

A 100% pure Panamanian landrace-sativa varietal made popular in the 1960s for its uplifting, cerebral, and mellow effects which are ideal for daytime consumption. Also known for its unique inflorescence (red pistils/hairs), this cultivar is a true artifact of cannabis past and has gained a cult following with references in various movies and in music.

An indica-dominant cultivar (80% indica/20% sativa), the extensive history of the Blueberry goes back to the 1970s when the breeder DJ Short, also known as the “Willy Wonka” of cannabis, was developing various exotic landrace strains. The original parental lineage is a three-way cross (Afghani x Thai x Purple Thai), however, the Blueberry genetics have been passed around to multiple seed banks and breeding companies that DJ short collaborated with over the years. The taste is described as a sweet blueberry funk, reminiscent of a blueberry pie. It is known for its sedative, sleep inducing, analgesic quality. The Blueberry genetics have been used to create many award-winning cultivars such as the Blue Dream and Blue Widow along with various other berry varietals.

Bred by Dutch seed bank The Flying Dutchmen Seed Company, Pot of Gold took second place at the 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup for best hybrid variety. The lineage is a cross of Hindu Kush x Skunk#1. An amazing, indica-dominant hybrid (90% indica/10% sativa), the cultivar is known for its potent, calm, lazy, and typical indica effects, which are ideal for nighttime use. The taste is sweet and fruity skunk.

Sour Diesel is a 60/40 sativa-dominant, legendary ‘90s varietal. The popular cultivar is rumored to trace back to Grateful Dead Tour circa 1991. The legend goes that a bag of Chemdawg flower with 13 seeds in it ended up making its way to Massachusetts, which spawned Chem 91, Chem Sister, Chem C, and Chem D. From there the story unwinds, with reports that Sour Diesel resulted from an accidental cross of Chemdawg with Super Skunk, Skunk #1, or Northern Lights by a young NYC grower named AJ who acquired the new Chemdawg cultivar while attending a popular local concert venue. Voted High Times Magazine’s third-best strain of all time, the Sour Diesel is known for its pungent ‘diesel/gassy’ profile that produces heady, cerebral, and euphoric effects.

No one truly knows the lineage – perhaps one reason why it’s called Trainwreck – but the parents are thought to be a cross of Mexican and Thai sativas with Afghani indicas. Developed in northern California decades ago, one story claims that a couple of brothers harvested their indoor crop early because a train wreck had occurred nearby, and they did not want their crop to be discovered. This crop was the Trainwreck. Most cannabis enthusiasts agree that Trainwreck first appeared in Arcata or Humboldt County; also known as the famous “Emerald Triangle.” The Trainwreck taste is described as pungent, sweet, and spicy with a hint of pine. This cultivar is known for enhanced creativity, light mood, and overall euphoric effects.

The Grape Stomper, also known as Sour Grapes, is a hybrid cultivar that is slightly on the sativa side (60% sativa/40% indica). A cross between JojoRizo’s Purple Elephant and breeder Elite Seeds’ Chemdawg Sour Diesel, the breeding was originally developed in the underground community and is a former High Times Cannabis Cup first-place winner. Several independent growers developed Grape Stomper, so we’re unsure about the breeders’ true identity. Some say that Gage Green Genetics is responsible, but there are many ‘grape-like’ phenotypes. With a taste that users liken to a grape gumball, this cultivar will not disappoint. Grape Stomper’s effects allow the user to experience body effects that spreads to the limbs and result in a happy, yet energetic, state of calm.
